A grinding noise from a wheel almost always traces back to one of a few things: worn-out brake pads that have eaten through to the metal backing, a failing wheel bearing, or occasionally debris caught in the brake assembly.
Metal-on-metal brake grinding is urgent — continuing to drive on it damages your rotors and significantly increases stopping distance. Get it looked at immediately.
A wheel bearing issue usually sounds more like a rhythmic grinding or humming that changes with speed, sometimes accompanied by a vibration through the steering wheel. It's not usually an immediate safety emergency the way worn brakes are, but it shouldn't be ignored for long either.
